How would you describe your job?
Vintage-European Style Cabaret Entertainer and Producer.

How do your language skills help you do your job?
I sing in both English and German and without my language skills my whole performance would not work. I have also performed in Berlin and Amsterdam and German is a useful language when in the cabaret circuit.

What do enjoy most about your job?
Bringing live vintage entertainment to people who have not heard this music and style before, offering them something far more exciting and interesting than a night in front of the TV. I have also developed a range of drama-based training workshops which draw on elements of Brechtian theatre and cabaret.

What other skills and qualities do you need?
Determination, patience, marketing and PR skills and a whole lot of Chutzpah!

What's a typical day for you?
No day is the same. I have strived to build a freelance portfolio of work which allows me to have variety and creativity in my working life.

What's the best thing about knowing another language?
The nourishment it brings to me and the development of international friendships and understanding – something my grandparents' generation fought for.

How do you use your languages socially?
I have German and English friends. When I first moved to London I wanted to meet like-minded people so I went to a British-German meet up. Through this experience I gained work, friendships, a double act partner and a husband!
