Finding the right organisation

It’s really important that you do your research to find the right employer to work for. Unfortunately, there is no ready-made directory. It is helpful though to consider a prospective employer on three levels:

What is their industry?
What type of organisation are they?
What departments could I work for?

You also have to think about your own interests and skills. Even with translation, it will help to have experience in a particular field, as you might want to specialise in translating medical or legal documents, for example. And what about location? Do you want to have a job that is based in the UK or do you want to work abroad and travel? To help you to work out what sort of organisations to apply to work for, look at our languages and careers factsheet.
